Two new restaurants have recently opened in prime locations on Lake St., and we’re pleased to report that both are unique, interesting offerings that fit well with the eclectic group of outstanding restaurants in Downtown Oak Park.
Atlas Kafe at 1025 Lake St. is a crêperie, with sweet and savory lunch-dinner crêpes on the menu. The savory crêpes include fillings such as vegetables, cheeses, nuts, and spices, with the option to add meat or fish. There are gluten-free options as well. While one of these large crêpes can easily make a full lunch or dinner, try to save room for the sweet crêpes: Filled with fruit, Nutella, whipped cream, and other delicious treats, the sweet side of the Atlas Kafe menu is not to be missed.
7 Sandwich Shop is a few doors down, in the location vacated by Falafill a few months ago. This new spot doesn’t offer the usual, predictable sandwich fare—instead, you can get Tandoori chicken on naan, a shrimp po boy, or a Thai beef roll. Top honors go to the Cuban, with ham, pork, and pickles sliced perfectly thin.
With so many food options in DTOP, it must be difficult to find new ground to tread in this area. But Atlas Kafe and 7 Sandwich Shop both offer unusual and tasty menus not duplicated anywhere else in Oak Park. Try them out this holiday season!
